Performing & Visual Arts

Performing and visual arts classes are offered through the school's Fine Arts Department. Courses include Art Fundamentals, Mixed Chorus, Band, Acting, Technical Theatre, Drawing, Painting, 3D Design, Music Theory, Men's Choir, Treble Choir and more.  

Extracurricular performing and visual arts opportunities include clubs like Backstage Blue and Pep Band, and the National Art Honor Society, International Thespian Society and Tri-M Honor Society.

The school also puts on two productions a year. The fall play is a tradition since 2001, and the school's annual spring musical has been held since 1966.

  • Fall Plays

    Fall plays were first held at Notre Dame in the fall of 2001. They are held every year in November. The plays are a non-musical play that will usually have a smaller cast and crew than the spring show. This provides an opportunity for students to participate in different style of production. This production is self-supporting- ticket sales pay for the cost of the production.

  • Spring Musicals

    Notre Dame has a long tradition in musical theater. The annual musical tradition was started in 1966 with the production of The Sound of Music and continues to be successful means of involving 50 to 75% of the student body in a wide variety of performance and practical life- skills activities. The production is self-supporting ticket sales pay for the cost of the production. The ad and patron drive associated with the musicals provides a sales opportunity that is open to the entire school. The profits from this drive continue to support the general operating budget of the school.
