Prayer and Worship
Prayer begins and ends each day at Notre Dame. In the morning, the students recite the Memorare, our school prayer. At the end of the day, the students reflect on the Examination of Conscience and the Prayer for Generosity. All classes begin with prayer. The chapel is open and available to students all day for personal prayer time. Prayer also occurs at random times throughout the day for special intentions.
Opening Prayer: The Lord be with you.
Response: And with your spirit.
Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary,
that never was it known that anyone who
fled to your protection, implored your help,
or sought your intercession was left unaided.
Inspired by this confidence I fly unto you,
O Virgin of Virgins, my Mother. To you I come;
Before you I stand, sinful and sorrowful,
O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions,
but in your mercy hear and answer me.
Examination of Conscience
Recall that you are in the presence of God.
"God, I believe that I am in Your presence, and You are loving me."
Ask for help from the Spirit.
"God, You know my needs. Give me Your light, and help me as I review this day."
Review your day.
"God, help me to review the events of this day to recognize Your blessings and my shortcomings."
Ask for pardon and give thanks.
"God, I ask Your forgiveness for my failings, and I thank You for all of Your blessings.
Resolve to listen to God's voice.
"Make me aware that You are with me; show me how to become the person You want me to be."
Prayer for Generosity
Lord, teach me to be generous.
Teach me to serve as You deserve;
To give and not to count the cost;
To fight and not to heed the wounds;
To toil and not to ask for reward,
Save that of knowing I am doing your will.
Students are given a variety of opportunities to strengthen their faith. Worship and prayer are important parts of student life at Notre Dame.
Each week a class gathers for Mass in the Chapel. Throughout the school year, each class will worship together twice a semester. All-school liturgies take place twice a month and on various feasts and solemnities of the Church. These masses take place in the cafetorium at 10:15 a.m. unless otherwise noted. Students and faculty serve as musicians, choir, cantors, lectors, and Eucharistic ministers.
Sacrament of Reconciliation
Students are given the opportunity to participate in the Sacrament of Reconciliation twice a year, during Advent and Lent.
Other Worship Opportunities
The chapel is open to students for First Friday Devotions/Adoration on the first Friday of each month. All-school Stations of the Cross take place during the Lenten season. May Crowning and the Living Rosary take place in May in celebration of the month of Mary.
